Holding this feeling within my heart, I remember how weak it is -- I am reminded that only He gives me the strength that is truly required to navigate the landscape of my time here on this earth. I recall broken times long ago when nothing seemed like it would ever work out: sitting at the bottom of a hole that I could never get out on my own. He came down and rescued me. Today, I consider the love of my life next to which I wake every day, the wealth of family given to me, and the seeds of work finally growing around us -- seeing that so much is left to be done, but with the knowledge that my life is already won. Much love. Check back soon. (August 14, 2008)

Guy E. White is a Southern California artist, writer and educator. Receiving his Bachelor's of Arts in English from the University of California, Riverside (2003) and his Masters of Education from the University of La Verne (2006), his academic teaching and research interests include organizational leadership, school culture, 20th century American literature and drama, film studies, gender studies, autobiographical studies, and feminist and minority discourses. In the past decade, Guy has distinguished himself in his dedication to his wide array of diverse experiences in writing, teaching, web design, and administration.

Guy is the founder of the Don Lugo Renaissance Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation dedicated to changing lives and impacting futures of Don Lugo students, staffulty, and parents. Using his unique notions of shaping school culture, Guy seeks to raise millions of dollars for his alma mater and the students, staffulty, and parents that make up its heart.

Currently a Doctoral student of Organizational Leadership at the University of La Verne, Guy is further being developed (and helping develop himself) as an authentic leader. Guy believes in a holistic approach to growth and transformation, taking into account physical, mental and spiritual advancement within a person as a positive path forward on life's journey. Overall, Guy is concerned with how social environments corporately develop their members and in addressing the shortcomings of these organizations in cultivating the persons within this membership. As a Christian, Guy believes that all social spaces have the potential to be used in this aforementioned brand of holistic growth; from schools, to coffee shops, to churches, etc. This is clearly visible in his writing and teaching.

Guy has written for Skinnie Entertainment Magazine, the University of California, Riverside, Highlander , Prism Review, and Coffee House Digest, having interviewed such artists as 50 Cent, Paul Oakenfold, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Paul Van Dyk, Fischerspooner, and Tiesto. Currently, he pursues various projects, including his continued education at the University of La Verne. Additionally, he teaches high school English to many eager and some not-so-eager seniors while pursuing interests in family history, technology, writing, and philanthropy. He has traveled throughout the United States, Costa Rica, Ecuador (including the Galapagos Islands), and Peru. Guy is married to the most intentional, inspiring, Christ-centered, beautiful woman he will ever know, obtained her cat as part of community property, and will one day have one-thousand children.

Through discovering my most prized motivation in my life, I am able to think more clearly, prioritize action (or inaction) that follows this mission rather than following a path that would draw me away from it, and reflect the weight of my decisions and their impact on my future.

(Note: My life does not entirely exemplify these values and I am inadequate to fulfill such a grand purpose on my own merit. I do believe, however, that through the transformative power of my Creator I may one day reach His vision for my life as he takes account of my inadequacies, numbered as the hairs on my head, and lifts me through His grace.)

Mission Statement: To fulfill my potential and God's purpose for my life.

Core Values:

Every human being is valuable and precious to our Creator.

As our creator values every being, every person is deserving of dignity and compassion -- though they may not be deserving in human eyes.

All people seek meaning and purpose.

God seeks to transform our lives to conform to a grand purpose.

While one may be changed through an unplanned event in life, true positive transformation must be voluntary and intentional.

Stories of transformation are vastly important and powerful.

Core Beliefs:

There is one God.

God exists forever in perfect community as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

All humans are created in the image of God, yet have fallen short of His standard.

All humans are in need of Salvation.

Jesus Christ is fully man and fully God. Being a perfect reflection of God's character and glory, he lived a sinless life and offered himself as the only perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He physically rose from the dead and will return again to reign over His people.

Salvation (freedom from our imperfect, sinful condition) is a free gift from God to us. We cannot earn it or deserve it. Salvation is offered in grace (the freely given, unmerited favor and love of God). Salvation is received by faith (confidence or trust). Those who believe in Jesus Christ and call on His name are made right with God and given eternal life.

The Bible (all the books of the Old and New Testament) is the true message of God to us. The authors of the Bible were inspired by God and are, therefore, completely trustworthy. The Bible is the final authority for all matters to which it speaks.

It does not take a Masters degree to realize that the majority of Korn fans in the United States do not speak fluent Japanese. When Korn chose Dir En Grey to open at the 2006 Family Values Tour they were making it clear that there is something greater to be sought at a venue than smashing lyrics or the dancing image of the guy in leather on stage: there is a synergy that exists between all elements that make up a performance - even when the audience can not understand a single word.

Speaking to Dir En Grey via an interpreter, they say that their purpose when touring is to "be able to focus on what they want to tell the people", pointing to the notion that despite the language barrier, they seek to communicate with their audience abroad through feeling the "music in the body" and the "sounds in the atmosphere". However, even more surprising is their admission that they "don't care what the fans are feeling" - they are there to speak to the fans, nothing more.

Dir En Grey, formed in 1997, roots itself in Japan's visual kei movement, baring similarities to bands of the Glam rock movement in the United States and Europe. The band has slowly moved away from this image over the course of releasing six albums and has gained notoriety on more than three continents. Dir En Grey's music cannot be easily dismissed as a Japanese equivalent of Deftones, Korn and Flyleaf mixed with black lipstick and hairspray - their visuals dramatically infused with ghostly images of isolation, rage, and disturbed apathy. In the case of one of their music videos, the viewer acts like a intoxicated partygoer, leaving consciousness at the sight of Kyo, the band's lead, to awaken to the sign of a disembodied, live head in a birdcage staring out with stunned eyes. It looks like an 8mm version of the Paris Hilton video seemingly directed by Marilyn Manson.

Dir En Grey says that the biggest difference between their American and Japanese audience is that their American audience is more apt to respond though jumping, dancing, and moving their bodies. This phenomenon hints that an American audience is ready and willing to accept bands such as Dir En Grey from foreign shores: despite the ambiguity of their message - without any idea what is being sung or celebrated.

Dir En Grey is a hellfire puzzle-box waiting to be unlocked by the susceptible fan - a road best not taken by the light at heart or the mentally stable. For example, Kyo, the band's vocalist is noted for the presence of heavy burns upon his skin and engaging in self-mutilation on stage. While the authenticity of these acts is disputed, this performance suggests an underlying theme throughout there being. They are much more complex than this. Giving them credit, their use of makeup and occasional effeminate self-presentation lends to their visual kei base, while appealing to performance enthusiasts though their dramatic stage presence lends to a fuller understanding of the band as a prophetic dynamo. While imagery such as that espoused by Dir En Grey has been seemingly on a decline in recent years, Korn seems to believe that this workhorse his far from dead. Arguably, Korn understands something huge is coming.
